VP Sara: Dad proud of Senate archiving impeachment articles

Vice President Sara Duterte said her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, is proud of the Senate's decision to archive the articles of impeachment against her.

During an interview in The Hague, Netherlands on Wednesday night, Vice President Duterte explained that she was not personally informed but learned about it through a visitor who relayed the news to her father.

On August 6, the Senate voted 19-4-1 to transfer the articles of impeachment to the archives following the Supreme Court's ruling that declared them unconstitutional due to the one-year rule and violation of her right to due process.

The Supreme Court emphasized that archiving does not absolve Vice President Duterte from any charges, allowing for a new complaint to be filed starting February 6, 2026.

Currently, the House of Representatives is seeking to overturn the SC decision through a motion for reconsideration, arguing it should have the right to prosecute an impeachable official.

Vice President Duterte has requested that the Supreme Court dismiss the House's appeal on its ruling, calling their arguments 'mere diversions'.
