Vic del Rosario urges anti-online piracy bill to boost creative economy

Vicente 'Vic' del Rosario Jr., chairman and CEO of Viva Communications, on Friday urged the passage of an anti-online piracy bill to elevate the country's creative economy to match South Korea’s level.

Del Rosario emphasized that without piracy, the industry could have a larger budget for content creation, enabling it to become a formidable creative economy like South Korea's.

Viva Holdings Inc. and its 37 subsidiaries recently signed an E-Commerce Memorandum of Understanding to enhance protection against piracy and counterfeiting online.

Senate Bill Nos. 2150 and 2385 aim to amend the Intellectual Property Code to address online piracy but remain pending in the Senate.

Globe Telecommunications has been advocating for legislation that would enable site blocking as part of efforts to combat piracy, which they believe will support the creative industry and protect customers from risks associated with pirated content.
