Former PDEA chief turns himself in for contempt

Former Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) chief Wilkins Villanueva turned himself in to the House of Representatives on Monday, January 13, to comply with a contempt and detention order issued against him in December.

House QuadComm lead chairperson Ace Barbers announced that Villanueva arrived at Batasang Pambansa early Monday morning and was subsequently placed in the House's detention facility where he remains as of Tuesday.

The contempt order was issued because Villanueva allegedly lied about his involvement in the warrantless arrest of Jed Sy, wife of drug suspect Allan Sy, in January 2005.

Villanueva is now detained until the QuadComm completes its investigation into the Duterte administration's war on drugs and the panel plans to resume hearings next week.
