Vico Sotto declines 2028 run, urges tax settlement

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto announced on Monday that he will not run for any position in the 2028 elections and urged his political opponents to address tax obligations.

During his inaugural address, Sotto emphasized that making this announcement early frees him from political pressure and allows him to focus fully on fulfilling his mandate during his last term without political motives.

Sotto called out individuals allegedly involved in illegal activities, particularly those who owe billions of pesos in taxes to the national and local governments, urging them to settle their tax debts with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and Pasig City's local government.

He extended a hand of peace and unity to political rivals while stressing that there must still be accountability for past wrongdoings involving crimes.

Sotto did not name names but his statements were seen as a clear message to Sarah and Curlee Discaya, the owners of St. Gerrard Construction General Contractor and Development Corporation, who are known for their involvement in government contracts during the Duterte administration.
