Veejay Pre leaves FEU for UP after family's urging

Veejay Pre officially announced on Wednesday, May 21, his departure from Far Eastern University (FEU) after months of speculation.

Despite wanting to stay and lead the Tamaraws to a UAAP championship as revealed by FEU athletic director Mark Molina on May 8, Pre's family urged him to leave for better opportunities.

In a heartfelt social media post, Pre expressed that leaving FEU was 'the hardest decision ever' and emphasized considering his family's input in his growth as an athlete.

FEU coach Sean Chambers acknowledged the difficult situation but wished it could have been handled differently, emphasizing the emotional toll on Pre who is caught between adults’ decisions.

Chambers reiterated that he supports Pre's decision despite personal feelings and expressed hope for FEU to move forward by developing current talents.

FEU thanked Pre for bringing home three titles while exemplifying what it means to be a Tamaraw, expressing their willingness to let him go amid the unique situation.

Pre has since moved to the UP Fighting Maroons in a blockbuster transfer for Seasons 89 in 2026 and beyond.
