Manalo meets Rubio, Kallas; discusses South China Sea, economic ties

Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio for the first time on February 14, 2025, during the Munich Security Conference.

The two officials discussed the South China Sea issue and increasing economic cooperation between the Philippines and the United States, emphasizing an 'even more invested and enduring relationship'.

US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce noted Rubio's enthusiasm for building a stronger partnership with the Philippines, highlighting ongoing bilateral coordination on addressing China's destabilizing actions in the South China Sea and increasing economic cooperation.

Manalo also met with European Union High Representative Kaja Kallas to reaffirm commitments and look forward to increased collaboration.

During his trip to Europe, Manalo had discussions with Peru's Foreign Minister Elmer Schialer about deepening bilateral relations and reopening Peru's embassy in Manila.

Manalo will continue his diplomatic engagements in London, where he aims to strengthen bilateral relations with UK officials and discuss regional developments.
