US donates P1.9M equipment to PCG workshop

The United States Department of State's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs donated P1.9 million worth of equipment to the Philippine Coast Guard’s Fleet Maintenance and Repair Group workshop in Sangley Point, Cavite on Aug. 18.

Rear Admiral Rommel Supangan welcomed this donation as a significant step towards enhancing maritime security cooperation between the US Embassy and the PCG.

INL Director Kate Riche emphasized that INL will continue to support the MRG's efforts in operationalizing their maintenance facility and addressing vessel sustainment needs across the Coast Guard fleet.

The funding for the 400-square-meter Fleet Sangley Point MRG Workshop, valued at P54 million, was provided by the US Department of Defense while its design and outfitting were funded through a partnership between INL and the US Coast Guard.

Additional support from the US government in the form of technical training programs, maintenance and logistics systems planning, and equipment donations for vessel operating stations is planned for the coming year.
