URC breaks ground for new manufacturing plant in Malvar

Universal Robina Corporation (URC), led by the Gokongwei family, has broken ground for a new manufacturing plant in Malvar, Batangas.

The state-of-the-art facility will expand URC's production capacity and is set to start construction this year with phased expansion over 10 to 15 years.

URC President Irwin C. Lee noted that the plant will produce many of the company’s upcoming high-quality products.

Covering a 30.7-hectare site, the facility will include solar panels, natural lighting, ventilation, rainwater recovery systems, and wastewater reuse to minimize resource consumption and production waste.

Upon completion, the Malvar plant is expected to provide employment for approximately 3,000 people directly and indirectly, contributing to economic development in the region.

URC shares climbed by 2.07% or P2.40 to P118.30 apiece on Thursday following the announcement.
