UP Maroons win third straight FilOil Cup

The University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons won their third consecutive championship in the 18th FilOil Preseason Cup on Sunday, defeating National University with a score of 79-65.

Francis Nnoruka led UP with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and two assists, while Gerry Abadiano was named Tournament MVP for his consistent performance throughout the tournament.

Abadiano, who scattered 11.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists before the championship stage, highlighted his leadership as UP prepares to defend their UAAP men's basketball title in Season 88.

UP head coach Goldwin Monteverde praised Abadiano’s hard work over the years, emphasizing the importance of maintaining focus and continuing to improve despite their success.

The victory marks a historic achievement for UP, becoming the first team to complete a three-peat in FilOil and take home the ECJ Perpetual Trophy.
