UE restructures women's volleyball team after sponsor leaves

On Saturday, June 14, 2025, the University of the East (UE) clarified reports that several players were removed from their women's volleyball team and coaching staff changes were made.

UE stated that Strong Group Athletics (SGA), the former sponsor who supported the team during UAAP Seasons 86 and 87, chose not to renew its sponsorship for Season 88 after the contract expired in May.

As a result of this decision, UE's Physical Education (PE) Department appointed new coaches who held an open tryout based on skills, potential, and compatibility with the system being implemented by the new leadership.

According to sources, only four players were retained following the tryout last June 9: Van Bangayan, Khy Cepada, Angelica Reyes, and Bea Zamudio.

UE emphasized that scholarships are granted based on performance in representing the school, and the outcome of the tryout will determine who qualifies for limited athletic service grant slots specific to each team.

The Lady Warriors have not made the Final Four in almost two decades, with their last semifinals appearance in Season 69 in 2007.
