UAAP introduces Best Foreign Student-Athlete award for Season 87

The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) introduced a new Best Foreign Student-Athlete (FSA) award starting Season 87 during a press conference on Thursday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Under the new rule, foreign student-athletes leading statistical points races will receive this citation while the Most Valuable Player (MVP) title goes to the top-performing local athlete, ensuring that only local players can win MVP honors.

Previously, MVPs were awarded exclusively to local athletes such as Kevin Quiambao in men's basketball and Kacey dela Rosa in women's basketball.

UAAP executive director Rebo Saguisag noted that this change aims to recognize both local and international talent while maintaining fairness and equity in the league.

Foreign student-athletes who previously studied in a Philippine high school can still qualify for Rookie of the Year honors, but if an FSA leads statistical points, they receive Best Foreign Student-Athlete award instead of MVP.
