Tropical Storm Crising displaces over 4,700 farmers, causes P36.65M in agri losses

Tropical Storm Crising caused over 4,700 farmers to evacuate and resulted in an estimated P36.65 million in losses to agriculture and fisheries across Cagayan province.

The hardest-hit municipalities include Aparri, Buguey, Gattaran, and Sta.Ana, with rice crops sustaining the heaviest damage at P24.045 million.

Fishponds and fish cages also suffered significant damage amounting to P7.99 million in areas like Buguey, Sta. Teresita, Aparri, Gonzaga, and Camalaniugan.

High-value commercial crops such as vegetables, bananas, and various fruits sustained losses valued at P2.43 million in Sta. Ana, Sta. Teresita, Abulug, and Lasam.

Corn crops, mostly in the reproductive and seedling stages, also suffered damage with losses reaching P2.18 million in towns like Sta. Teresita, Gattaran, Rizal, Peñablanca, and Baggao.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office continues to monitor for updates as no casualties have been reported.

Local governments are coordinating efforts to assist affected farmers and provide food for storm-affected residents.
