Aghon floods Calabarzon, rescuing over 300

Severe Tropical Storm Aghon caused flooding in the Calabarzon Region on Sunday, obstructing motorists and stranding commuters.

Over 300 individuals have been rescued by local authorities who continue their rescue operations.

Floodwaters reached nearly a kilometer of national highway waist-deep in Bay, Laguna, with military forces providing free rides to stranded residents. In Mauban, Quezon, 12 barangays are being evacuated due to power outages and unreachable conditions.

Several rice fields were inundated, and at least 197 families were evacuated to safety across the region; meanwhile, in Lucena City, residents from Brgy. Kanlurang Mayao have been evacuated using rubber boats by the Quezon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, DRRMO Lucena City, and the Philippine Air Force.

Strong winds from Aghon damaged infrastructure, including roofs blown off establishments in Lipa, Batangas, and a truck that had to be lifted out of a river near Polillo Islands. The Quezon Provincial Government also issued a Memorandum Circular suspending all classes at all levels and government work due to the effects of Tropical Storm Aghon.
