Tropical Depression Auring develops then weakens near Batanes

A low pressure area (LPA) above Batanes developed into Tropical Depression Auring at 8 pm on Thursday, June 12, marking the first tropical cyclone of 2025.

By 2 am Friday, Auring weakened back into an LPA and exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility, moving northwest outside PAR at a fast 40 kilometers per hour.

As of 4 am Friday, the former Tropical Depression was located 580 kilometers north-northwest of Itbayat, Batanes.

PAGASA advises that scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected in Batanes due to Auring's trough, while Ilocos Region and Babuyan Islands will experience similar conditions due to the southwest monsoon or 'habagat'.

Moderate to heavy rain is also predicted over Surigao del Sur and Davao Oriental due to easterly winds.

Light to moderate winds with slight to moderate seas are expected across most of the country, while strong winds and rough coastal waters will prevail in northern Luzon's western and northern sections.
