Senate leaders hail WPS inclusion in Google Maps as victory

Senate Majority Leader Francis 'Tol' Tolentino celebrated the inclusion of the West Philippine Sea (WPS) in Google Maps on Monday, calling it a victory for all Filipinos.

Tolentino highlighted that this development reflects growing international recognition of the Philippines' maritime claims and affirms the correctness of the country's policy to assert its sovereign rights under international law.

He also expressed hope for similar recognition of Talampas ng Pilipinas (formerly Benham Rise) on Google Maps, envisioning these resources fueling national development and prosperity in the future.

Tolentino noted that global leaders, including those from the United States and European Union, are increasingly recognizing the Philippines' cause due to the active online presence and patriotism of Filipinos.

Sen. Joel Villanueva echoed Tolentino's observation, emphasizing that labeling the WPS is a major victory for the country against China’s bullying and will be important in teaching every Filipino about territorial sovereignty.
