17 suspected terrorists detained, explosives seized in Ampatuan

Philippine soldiers and police successfully seized a significant cache of weapons and detained 17 suspected terrorists in Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur, following reports from local villagers on Monday.

The operation resulted in the seizure of improvised explosive devices and six assault rifles in Barangay Kapinpilan.

According to Major Gen. Donald M. Gumiran, commander of the Army's 6th Infantry Division, three suspects were spotted assembling powerful improvised explosive devices using ammonium nitrate as main blasting powder.

The men were apprehended peacefully after sensing they were surrounded, avoiding a potential armed confrontation.

Local Moro leaders confirmed that the suspects are members of the Dawlah Islamiya and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters and expressed support for the operation.

The suspects are currently in joint custody with the 90th Infantry Battalion (IB) and the police, undergoing interrogation to gather further information.

This operation highlights the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in Maguindanao del Sur and underscores the cooperation between security forces and local communities.
