Tarlac mayor appears in court for human trafficking case

Dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo appeared before the Pasig Regional Trial Court on Wednesday, May 28, to present evidence in her qualified human trafficking case.

Guo's lawyer Nicole Jamilla did not specify the defense witnesses or evidence presented but expressed hope that it was sufficient to refute the prosecution's claims.

The mayor personally attended the hearing which lasted for around four hours and was escorted by a group of police officers.

Jamilla noted that the presentation of evidence will continue next week, as part of an ongoing process involving multiple accused individuals in the case.

In addition to the trafficking charges, Guo also faces graft and material misrepresentation cases before courts in Valenzuela and Tarlac respectively.

A quo warranto petition was filed against her with a Manila court, while another seeks to cancel her birth certificate before a Tarlac court.

Guo is currently detained at the Pasig City Jail.
