SUV crashes into EDSA barriers during rain, driver hospitalized

An SUV crashed into concrete barriers on the northbound section of EDSA near the People Power Monument during heavy rain on Thursday morning, causing significant traffic congestion.

Traffic enforcers redirected vehicles away from the crash site to ensure safety and manage the flow of traffic.

The Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT) responded to repair damaged barriers and assess the situation, with initial reports suggesting the driver may have entered the EDSA Busway due to a medical condition.

Responders broke a rear window of the SUV to reach the driver, who was later transported to an ambulance on a stretcher and taken to a hospital in Pasig City.

According to SAICT, the male driver appeared conscious but unable to move, suggesting he may have suffered from a heart attack or other medical condition.

The MMDA deployed emergency services including an ambulance and tow truck; however, normal traffic flow was not immediately restored.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the crash and its impact on commuters.
