SUV crash at NAIA Terminal 1 kills 2, injures 3

An SUV crashed into the departure entrance area at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 early Sunday morning, resulting in two deaths and three injuries.

The vehicle rammed through the outer railing and damaged the walkway near the terminal entrance before crashing onto the floor, causing traffic congestion in the area. The driver said a passing sedan caused him to mistakenly press the accelerator instead of the brake pedal, leading to the incident.

Individuals who were injured are receiving medical treatment at San Juan De Dios Hospital in Pasay City, and the driver is in police custody for investigation pending mandatory drug testing.

San Miguel Corp., which oversees NAIA operations, confirmed that access to the affected area has been restricted to authorized personnel from New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and MIAA Security.

Philippine Airlines advised passengers to arrive early at Terminal 1 to avoid potential delays due to the accident.

The Department of Transportation confirmed that there was no premeditated plan to harm passengers, and NNIC is working closely with authorities in the investigation.
