Student kills teacher over grades in Lanao Del Sur

A teacher was fatally shot by her student in Balabagan, Lanao Del Sur on August 4 after receiving failing grades that prevented the student from enrolling in Grade 12.

Following the incident, the suspect went into hiding but later surrendered with assistance from his police officer sibling.

In response to this act of violence, the Bangsamoro Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education issued a statement emphasizing the critical role teachers play in communities.

The ministry highlighted that violence against educators undermines education, peace, and public service, stressing the need to safeguard teacher safety.

Teachers are described as pillars of the community who devote their lives to shaping the minds and futures of youth.
