Slovenia backs PH for UNSC, opens embassy

Slovenia expressed strong support for the Philippines' bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), emphasizing shared values in international law and human rights.

During a joint press conference in Manila on Tuesday, March 11, Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon reiterated Slovenia's commitment to upholding international law and its full solidarity with the Philippines regarding the South China Sea issue.

Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo thanked Fajon for Slovenia’s support and highlighted that the Philippines remains committed to defending sovereignty in the South China Sea through dialogue and diplomacy.

Fajon, during her three-day visit from March 10 to 12, also oversaw the formal opening of Slovenia's first embassy in the Philippines, marking a milestone in the 31-year diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Both officials discussed potential areas for cooperation including trade, investment, and collaboration in space, pharmaceuticals, nuclear energy, and renewables.
