Shamcey Supsup-Lee resigns from Team Kaya over crude joke

Shamcey Supsup-Lee, Miss Universe 2011 third runner-up and candidate for councilor in Pasig's first district, has resigned from Sarah Discaya's Team Kaya This following a controversy involving the team’s congressional candidate Ian Sia.

Supsup-Lee cited her values as a woman, mother, and leader no longer aligning with the direction of the group after its candidate made a crude joke about single mothers.

In her statement, Supsup-Lee emphasized her commitment to dignity, respect, accountability, and women empowerment, and said she is stepping back to reflect before taking further action.

She had previously spoken out against Sia's remarks, stating that such comments diminish or disrespect women.

The Commission on Elections issued a show cause order to Sia, requiring him to explain why he should not face an election offense case for his joke.

The Solo Parents Party-list filed an election offense case against Sia under the Fair Elections Act, alleging a violation of RA 9006.

Discaya affirmed that she and Sia would continue their journey together despite the controversy.
