Zubiri disappointed over DOST budget cut

Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri expressed disappointment over the Department of Science and Technology's (DOST) reduced 2025 budget, which was cut from P49.253 billion to P28.772 billion by conferees from both chambers of Congress.

Zubiri highlighted that Phivolcs lacks monitoring equipment despite recent volcanic activity at Mount Kanlaon and emphasized the need for additional funding.

The senator also noted Pagasa could use extra funds to improve weather monitoring across the country.

Zubiri, who is chairman of the subcommittee responsible for DOST's budget, expressed shame over not being able to secure a budget increase despite efforts in the Senate.
