Senate continues POGO probe despite presidential ban

Senator Risa Hontiveros stated that the Senate investigation into Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) will continue despite President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s recent ban announcement.

Hontiveros emphasized that the investigation is broader than just Mayor Alice Guo's case, addressing the entire POGO industry which has contributed to various crimes in the country.

The Senate committee on women, children, family relations and gender equality aims to ensure proper implementation of the phaseout, identify perpetrators involved in crimes, provide justice for victims, and facilitate a just transition for workers.

Hontiveros also highlighted the need to address regulatory failures within government offices allegedly influenced by POGOs.

The committee will resume its hearings on July 29 to continue investigating Mayor Guo's involvement in illegal activities at a raided POGO establishment in Bamban, Tarlac.
