Senate elects 9 CA members amid debate on composition

On Monday, the Senate elected nine senators as members of the Commission on Appointments (CA) following a closed-door meeting.

The selected senators are Ronald 'Bato' Dela Rosa, JV Ejercito, Jinggoy Estrada, Bong Go, Rodante Macoleta, Imee Marcos, Raffy Tulfo, Joel Villanueva, and Mark Villar.

Senate Minority Leader Vicente 'Tito' Sotto III questioned the composition of the CA, arguing that it should follow Supreme Court decisions on proper allocation rather than a 80-20 representation formula proposed by Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva.

Villanueva defended his nominations based on an 80-20 split between the majority and minority groups, emphasizing the need for a balanced approach to ensure constitutional checks and balances.

Senator Alan Peter Cayetano withdrew his name temporarily from the initial list of 10 members to allow more time for discussion, resulting in nine members elected from the majority bloc.
