Senate Blue Ribbon probes Cabagan bridge collapse

A Senate blue-ribbon subcommittee will conduct a motu proprio investigation into the collapse of the Cabagan-Sta. Maria Bridge in Isabela on Friday, March 14.

Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, designated by his sister Pia Cayetano as chairperson of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, will lead the hearing.

Alan filed Senate Resolution 1322 to urge an investigation into the bridge collapse and scrutinize the DPWH's construction processes, citing repeated technical defects observed by the Commission on Audit.

The resolution highlights concerns over errant contractors and inadequate supervision in infrastructure projects, aiming to protect public interest through legislative measures.

Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel filed a separate resolution to investigate recurring incidents of collapsing bridges nationwide, seeking accountability from involved parties and assessing current policies.
