Senate adopts resolution honoring late Sen Rene Saguisag

The Senate unanimously adopted a resolution on Tuesday expressing sympathy and condolences for the late former senator Rene Saguisag, a staunch rights defender.

Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri led the sponsorship of Senate Resolution No. 1009, highlighting Saguisag's dedication to justice and human rights, describing him as 'a man of the people and a man for the people.'

During the tribute, Senator Robinhood 'Robin' Padilla mistakenly mentioned the name of deceased senator Rene Cayetano instead of Saguisag.

Padilla later clarified that it was an honest mistake due to his recent hospitalization and feeling unwell during the session.

The resolution also noted Saguisag's contributions to key legislations such as Republic Act No. 6713 on ethical standards for public officials and employees and Republic Act No. 6770 on the Ombudsman Act of 1989, which uphold integrity in public service.
