Sen Hontiveros urges Roque to return over human trafficking charges

Senator Risa Hontiveros called on former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque to return to the Philippines following an arrest warrant issued against him for human trafficking charges.

Hontiveros emphasized that Roque, as a lawyer, should understand the importance of complying with legal orders and not evading arrest.

The senator highlighted that the arrest warrant is part of ongoing efforts to hold accountable those involved in illegal activities related to Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs).

Roque faces charges for allegedly turning a blind eye to criminal activities at Lucky South 99, a POGO hub he reportedly represented as legal counsel.

Hontiveros stressed the interconnectedness of individuals linked to POGOs and emphasized the need to hold them accountable to prevent further deception and illegal operations.

The senator's call comes amid a nationwide ban on POGOs implemented in December 2024 following extensive investigations into human trafficking, corruption, and scam operations associated with these entities.
