SEC Chair Emilio Aquino ends seven-year term next month

Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairperson Emilio Aquino is set to conclude his seven-year tenure next month.

Aquino, appointed by former President Rodrigo Duterte in 2018, has overseen the expansion of SEC's digital services and promoted corporate sustainability.

Under his leadership, SEC relocated its headquarters from a condemned building in Ortigas to a new office in Makati in 2022, improving employee morale and customer service.

Aquino expressed hope that his successor will continue his initiatives, particularly focusing on digital-first priorities, cybersecurity, and climate change.

When asked about the possibility of reappointment, Aquino stated it is up to the president's decision, emphasizing he has had his time and chance in the role.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has not yet announced who will succeed Aquino, whose term ends in June.
