SC issues writ of kalikasan against Palawan mining firms

The Supreme Court (SC) issued a writ of kalikasan against two mining firms, Celestial Nickel Mining and Exploration Corporation and Ipilan Nickel Corporation, as well as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), over their operations in Brooke's Point, Palawan.

The court ordered the companies to provide evidence that their activities do not harm the environment.

This decision follows a petition by indigenous cultural communities who claim mining is causing ecological destruction including deforestation.
