Sara Duterte to finish term before seeking presidency

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte announced on Wednesday that she will complete her term as mayor before considering a run for higher office.

Despite leading in opinion polls for the presidency, Sara had previously stated she would not seek the position after her father's announcement to run for vice president.

However, President Rodrigo Duterte unexpectedly declared his intention to retire from politics last Saturday, paving the way for Sara to potentially run for president alongside Senator Bong Go for vice president.

Palace official Salvador Panelo praised Duterte for being 'selfless' and heeding public sentiment by retiring from politics.
