Sabungero remains search halted due to weather

The search for the supposed remains of missing sabungeros in Taal Lake was temporarily halted on Monday due to poor weather conditions.

Justice Department spokesperson Atty. Mico Clavano previously announced that the Coast Guard's underwater search operations were placed on standby at 9:29 a.m. last Friday, as continuous rainfall and reduced visibility made diving unsafe.

Since whistleblower Julie 'Dondon' Patidongan's claims that over 100 sabungeros were abducted and killed with their bodies dumped in Taal Lake, authorities have recovered several sacks of remains suspected to contain human bones.

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has said that the government is looking into up to 30 individuals who may be connected to the missing sabungeros case.

The retrieved remains are being transported to the PNP forensic group for DNA cross-matching with samples provided by family members of the missing individuals.
