Romualdez praises Marcos for quick arrest of Tan murder suspects

House Speaker Martin Romualdez praised President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for the swift arrest of suspects in the killing of businessman Anson Tan and his driver on Sunday, April 20.

Romualdez thanked Marcos for his support to the Philippine National Police (PNP) in resolving the case quickly, highlighting the administration's commitment to public safety.

Surigao del Norte Representative Robert Ace Barbers, who chairs the House Committee on Dangerous Drugs, commended the PNP for its professional and evidence-based operation that avoided unnecessary violence, noting the arrests demonstrate greater precision and efficiency under Marcos’s leadership.

The three suspects—Ricardo Austria David, Raymart Catequista, and Chinese national David Tan Liao—are now in PNP custody after a coordinated police operation last Friday; Liao surrendered to the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG), while David and Catequista were arrested in Palawan province.

The House Speaker reaffirmed the legislative body's commitment to supporting laws that enhance law enforcement capabilities and strengthen the criminal justice system, emphasizing the need for proper legal procedures and restraint in police operations.
