Romualdez optimistic Senate will push economic charter changes

House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez expressed optimism on Wednesday that proposed economic charter changes (Cha-cha) will progress in the Senate under new leadership.

The House has already passed Resolution of Both Houses (RBH) No. 7 to amend the 1987 Constitution, allowing foreign ownership in public utilities, basic education, and advertising.

Romualdez said that whatever benefits the public will be considered by the Senate under the leadership of new Senate President Francis Escudero.

Despite initial concerns about timing due to other priorities, Romualdez remains confident that economic reforms proposed in RBH No. 7 will be reviewed.

House Majority Leader Manuel Dalipe also expressed optimism for positive strides on economic Cha-cha despite Escudero's known opposition.
