Richard Garin Jr. wins second term as Miagao mayor

Incumbent Miagao Mayor Richard Garin Jr. secured his second term on Tuesday, May 13, defeating former political ally Macario Napulan.

Garin won with 20,193 votes compared to Napulan's 16,119 votes, based on the final official results.

In the vice mayoral race, Dr. Salve Napud emerged victorious with 19,324 votes over Carmelo Nochete's 16,054.

The election drew attention due to the candidates' shared political history; Garin and Napulan were former running mates in the 2022 elections.

During his proclamation speech, Garin vowed to deliver inclusive public service and emphasized mutual respect for democratic processes.

Richard's re-election solidifies the Garin family's political dominance in Iloilo's first district, with his wife Janet also winning a seat as Iloilo's First District representative.
