Rescued serpent eagle transferred to wildlife park

A Philippine serpent eagle found weak and dehydrated in Donsol, Sorsogon was rescued by Lalaine Herrera Amor three weeks ago and turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Bicol on Monday.

Ms. Amor initially released the eagle back into the wild but it kept returning, prompting her to contact DENR for proper handling.

The eagle has been transported to Albay Park and Wildlife for further assessment and care before its eventual release.

Francisco Milla Jr., DENR Bicol Regional Executive Director, urged the public to report any wildlife in need of assistance to the authorities.

The Philippine serpent eagle is endemic to the Philippines and listed under the 'Other Wildlife Species' category according to DENR Administrative Order No. 2019-09, currently classified as 'Least Concern' by IUCN but with a decreasing population trend.
