Rep Teves undergoes surgery, faces return to detention

Expelled Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. underwent a successful surgery at the Philippine General Hospital after being rushed there with severe stomach pain.

However, Teves experienced post-operative complications that required additional medical procedures, according to his lawyer Ferdinand Topacio.

Teves' lawyer thanked UP Manila Chancellor Michael Tee for assisting in the transfer to PGH and assured that doctors are managing the situation well.

Topacio criticized the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) for delays in providing medical attention to Teves, raising concerns about how ordinary detainees are treated.

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla stated that Teves will be returned to detention immediately after his recovery, emphasizing adherence to court protocols.

Teves was arrested in Timor-Leste on May 27 and deported back to the Philippines. He faces multiple charges including murder for orchestrating the Pamplona Massacre in March 2023.
