Rep Ron Salo urges Filipinos in Kuwait to use visa amnesty program

A lawmaker urged Filipinos in Kuwait to take advantage of the visa amnesty program, which runs from March 17 to June 17.

The initiative allows individuals with expired visas to regularize their stay or leave without penalties; those choosing to legalize residency must pay fines.

Kabayan party-list Representative Ron Salo praised the program as a 'lifeline' for resolving issues faced by Filipino workers in Kuwait.

Salo's office is working with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to assist concerned Filipinos in taking advantage of the amnesty program.

The Philippines imposed a deployment ban for first-time household service workers in Kuwait following the death of Jullebee Ranara in February 2023, and Salo plans to visit Kuwait on April 20 to discuss potential lifting of the ban post-Ramadan.

Salo emphasized that his visit aims to assess living conditions, aid in bilateral discussions between nations, and provide insights for lifting the deployment ban.
