Rep Herrera files HR to investigate MRT construction collapse

Bagong Henerasyon Party-list Rep. Bernadette Herrera filed House Resolution No. 2262 to investigate the collapse of a concrete column at an MRT construction site in Quezon City on April 13.

Herrera urged the House of Representatives to conduct an inquiry into the incident, highlighting safety lapses and urging strict adherence to engineering standards.

The resolution aims to determine accountability over the collapsed column and strengthen government oversight on transportation infrastructure projects nationwide.

It calls for summoning representatives from the Department of Transportation, the Department of Public Works and Highways, the MRT Project Management Office, project contractors, engineers, and local officials to explain their roles and possible lapses.

Herrera underscored the need for structural audits, third-party safety assessments, and community hazard notifications in all ongoing and future government construction projects.

The resolution mandates that findings and recommendations be submitted within 30 days of the inquiry's commencement, with partial operations of MRT-7 possibly resuming by late 2025 or early 2026 according to DOTr.
