Senate to question Bamban mayor over alleged China spying

Senator Francis Tolentino stated on Sunday that dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo will be questioned in the next Senate executive session regarding an Al Jazeera report linking her to spying for China.

The House Quad Committee will continue investigating Guo following allegations that she was a Chinese spy and had connections with She Zhijiang, a detained individual in Thailand accused of human trafficking and forced labor.

In the Al Jazeera report, She claimed to have contacted Guo using his handler's phone, prompting further scrutiny from Batangas Representative Gerville Luistro who expressed concern over the similarities between Guo’s situation and that of Lucky South, linked to human trafficking and internet scams.

Guo has denied all accusations and claims she does not know or is unconnected with She Zhijiang. The Senate executive session scheduled for this week may reveal more information, including potential hearings at the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok.

The House Quad Committee's investigation will continue even during the filing of candidacy from October 1 to 8, as instructed by Speaker Martin Romualdez.

Representative Luistro emphasized the need to evaluate land transfers under Chinese citizens and their compliance with local regulations to safeguard national interests and security.
