Belmonte: No need for QC lockdown despite UK variant case

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said there is no need to impose new lockdowns despite the detection of the UK Covid-19 variant in one resident.

The infected individual was isolated immediately upon testing positive and never entered the community.

Belmonte assured that those who fetched him from the airport, including their driver, were also tested and isolated.

The patient left for a business trip to Dubai on December 27 and returned on January 7, testing negative in both instances except upon arrival back in the Philippines.

On January 13, it was confirmed by the city government that the resident has the UK variant of the virus.
