PTFoMS, PNP reactivate Media Security Vanguard for 2025 elections

On Tuesday, the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) reactivated the PTFOMS-PNP Media Security Vanguard initiative to enhance media safety, especially ahead of the 2025 midterm elections.

PTFoMS Executive Director Jose Torres Jr. emphasized the importance of this initiative in protecting journalists during adversities, noting that various government agencies are mandated to provide proactive responses to ensure their security.

Communications Secretary Jay Ruiz underscored the critical role of media in democracy and called for collective efforts to protect journalists so they can continue their work as messengers.

Specialized teams trained to respond quickly to media concerns will be deployed, while workshops and seminars will be conducted to equip journalists with necessary knowledge.

PTFoMS is coordinating with the Department of Justice, Commission on Elections, local and international human rights groups to improve the security of media workers in the Philippines.
