PRC Iloilo urges locals to donate more blood to meet hospital demands

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Iloilo Chapter is urging locals to participate in more blood drives to maintain adequate supply.

Dr. Carlo Carado, the manager of the PRC Iloilo Western Visayas Regional Blood Center, noted that January typically sees fewer mobile donation events due to holidays and emphasized that current hospital demands are met through ongoing activities and walk-in donors.

Carado said they aim to collect 25,000 blood units annually for Iloilo province but exceeded this target in 2024 with 31,000 units collected.

Requests primarily come from hospitals for obstetrics and surgical patients, emphasizing the ongoing need for donations.

Individuals interested in donating must be between 18 to 60 years old, healthy, well-rested, and not ill; groups are encouraged to organize at least two mobile drives per year.
