Police kill multiple murder suspect Buto Butingkol, arrest accomplice in Maguindanao

Tuesday night, August 19, saw a police operation in Barangay Tamontaka, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte, where a multiple murder suspect and large-scale shabu peddler was killed while his companion was arrested.

Brig. Gen. Jaysen De Guzman of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region reported that Buto Butingkol drew a gun and opened fire during the operation, leading to a shootout.

Butingkol, known for over 20 deadly attacks since 2019, died after being rushed to a hospital but declared dead on arrival.

Police teams, including Lt. Col. Esmael Madin's unit from the Datu Odin Sinsuat Municipal Police Station and other PRO-BAR units, were serving an arrest warrant when Butingkol fired at them.

Dave Midtimbang was arrested after Butingkol was killed and is now in custody awaiting prosecution for his pending criminal cases.

The rest of the suspects managed to escape and are currently being hunted by joint military-police forces.
