CIDG busts bomb plot, arrests two suspects in Zamboanga

Police confiscated explosive materials and arrested two suspects during a buy-bust operation in Zamboanga City on February 6.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) conducted the operation as part of efforts to combat criminal elements that could threaten the May 12 elections.

Arjemhar and Gamar were apprehended after a poseur buyer from the CIDG negotiated for the purchase of explosive materials in Barangay Rio Hondo.

The seizure included 2,000 blasting caps, 2,000 improvised non-electric blasting caps, three rolls of safety fuse commercial, five plastic bags containing TNT, and two spool light pink detonating cords, along with P20,000 in boodle money and a sports utility vehicle.

The suspects face charges under Republic Act 9516 for unlawfully bearing firearms or deadly weapons during the election period.

CIDG chief Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III emphasized that the operation aimed to dismantle criminal activities and secure the integrity of the upcoming elections.
