Police arrest 'Gaynor,' tabloid reporter with illegal guns

Police arrested three individuals, including a tabloid reporter identified as 'Gaynor,' on Monday in Makati City during an entrapment operation against the illegal sale of firearms.

The suspects were selling their illegal items online and through contacts made by cyber patrollers over a month before the arrest.

Among the seized items from the suspects were three automatic 5.56 Armalite rifles, one .45 caliber pistol, assorted ammunition worth more than PHP500,000, press credentials, phones, firearms registration cards, and vehicles.

Brig. Gen. Joseph Arguelles praised his team's efforts in combating illegal firearms proliferation and emphasized that these weapons endanger public safety.

The suspects and seized items were brought to the Southern Police District for documentation and filing of complaints under the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act as well as the election gun ban.

Further investigation is ongoing to determine if the suspects were involved in other illicit firearm transactions within Metro Manila.
