PNP relieves Ormoc City police chief over campaign shooting

The Philippine National Police (PNP) relieved Ormoc City Police Director Colonel Reydante Ariza from his position following an investigation into a shooting incident that injured Albuera mayoral candidate Kerwin Espinosa.

Seven Ormoc-based policemen, now in PNP custody, are considered persons of interest and were involved in the crime according to PNP spokesperson Brigadier General Jean Fajardo.

Espinosa was shot in the right shoulder by an unidentified assailant while attending a campaign event on Thursday around 4:30 p.m.

Colonel Dionisio Apas Jr., Leyte Police provincial director, confirmed that Ariza remains a person of interest and is under investigation for his alleged involvement in the shooting.

Police Colonel Dennis Jose Llavore has been designated as officer-in-charge following Ariza's relief.
