PNP investigates leaked memo on overshadowing incident involving top brass

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is investigating a leaked internal memo that allegedly outlines strategies to 'overshadow' an incident where a PNP convoy carrying senior officers, including PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil, was stopped along the Edsa busway.

According to reports, the alleged memorandum issued by the Directorate for Police Community Relations (DPCR) on Feb. 26 instructs police regional offices to 'amplify' their operational accomplishments and designates the PNP Public Information Office as the sole unit allowed to speak on the matter.

PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo explained that the convoy was carrying senior officers for a 'closed-door meeting regarding an ongoing security operation'.

The PNP Public Information Office chief, Police Colonel Randulf Ruano, said they are verifying the authenticity of the document and emphasized the PNP's commitment to transparency and accountability.

Ruano added that the PNP will not tolerate any form or attempt to manipulate public opinion or divert attention from more pressing matters, urging the public to seek information from credible sources.
