PNP cordon off KOJC cathedral for anniversary, celebration proceeds peacefully

The Philippine National Police (PNP) cordoned off the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) cathedral in Davao City on September 1, 2024, to prevent its use for the group's 39th anniversary celebrations.

Despite this, the celebration proceeded peacefully with no major incidents as the PNP facilitated a smooth observance of the Feast of Passover.

KOJC lawyer Atty. Israelito Torreon said that despite being denied access to the cathedral, the KOJC held its event at the front portion of the KINGDOME as instructed by the PNP.

The PNP confirmed that their presence was part of enforcing court-ordered processes and emphasized respect for religious rights while upholding the law.

Torreon noted that due to heat concerns, some activities were canceled and alternative makeshift stages had to be set up for the shortened celebration.
