PNP reports 116 new COVID-19 cases, death toll at 72

As of Thursday, June 24, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported 116 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 27,157.

The number of recoveries increased by 130 to reach a total of 25,358 while the death toll remained at 72.

On June 22, PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar announced that a police staff sergeant from Agusan del Norte had died due to COVID-19, marking the 72nd fatality within the PNP.

The victim experienced symptoms on June 14 and was advised by a doctor to undergo an RT/PCR test but did not follow through until June 18 when he tested positive.

Despite hospitalization and treatment, including endotracheal intubation, the officer passed away early morning on June 20.
